Save Drawing (File Menu)

www.CAD6.com

This command saves the current drawing, if it already has a name. If the drawing has not yet been saved, i.e. if the title bar shows (UNTITLED) then this calls the command File > Save Drawing as instead.

You can save either standard or compressed drawings. Compressed drawings are compressed using the standard 7-Zip compression method and will require about 1/5 the space the standard drawing would have required. In order to save a compressed drawing, use the command File > Save Drawing as and select the "Compressed Drawing (*.MKD)" file type in the "File Selection" dialog. Once you have saved a drawing in compressed mode, it will be saved in compressed mode until you explicitly save it uncompressed.

Compressed drawings can be additionally encrypted using a password. To activate or deactivate this password encryption, please use the command Edit > Options > Files.

If you want to edit a compressed drawing outside the application (e.g. using a text editor), you can extract the compressed drawing using the 7za.exe application which is located in the Malz++Kassner CAD6 directory or any other standard 7-Zip utility and then edit it. After editing is finished, you can compress it again using the 7za.exe application or any other standard 7-Zip utility. Please make sure that the file name of the extracted file remains unchanged!

Before saving, a dialog appears asking whether or not to overwrite the existing file. This helps to avoid the accidental overwriting of important data.

Drawing files do not contain Undo and Redo information, which are only available as long as the drawing remains in memory.
