Backup > Archive Secured Drawing (File Menu)

www.CAD6.com

The command allows to archive a secured drawing. This means that a new version of the current drawing is created where all external references have been replaced by references to internal blocks and bitmaps. Such a drawing is then independent of possible libraries and bitmaps, and may be passed on without the need to include any library.

"Secured" means that the drawing can be protected against specific operations, i.e. those operations will not be possible. You can exclude printing, exporting, saving and/or modifying. All objects and blocks in the drawing will be secured in the same manner. If objects or blocks of the current drawing are already secured, the new exclusions will be added to their current ones.

This protection is, like any electronic protection, not completely save. There are always ways and methods to tamper such a protection with the appropriate effort. Although we are convinced that we have designed the protection to make it impossible to normal users to bypass this protection, we cannot make any guarantee for this protection! Do never rely on this protection alone if you want to protect critical data!!!

The "File Selection" dialog appears in which the file to be used can be specified.

Afterwards, the "Archive Secured Drawing" dialog appears in which the exclusions can be selected.

Malz++Kassner CAD6 drawing files usually have the extension .MKD, although other extensions can be used, which can cause confusion.

The conversion of external blocks to internal blocks makes necessary an adaptation of the blocks' names. For each library, a new folder of the form ~x~ will be created, where x is a running number. Within this folder, the blocks' names and the hierarchical structure remains basically intact. To ensure uniqueness, each block name is followed by a number. This name conversion is secure as long as it is only executed once. We strongly recommend not to modify an archived drawing by inserting new external references and then archiving it again. This may cause hidden and unrecoverable name conflicts that make the drawing file unusable. When editing a drawing, be sure to always use the original non-archived drawing!
