Calculation Time (3D Introduction) |
www.CAD6.com |
Working with 3D parts can be very calculation time consuming. For many operations, the calculation time involved increases by the square of the number of facets to be handled (i.e. twice the number of facet will required four times the calculation time). It therefore makes sense to work with a low resolution during the construction phase, and to increase the resolution only once at the end in order to get the best possible optical result.
The number of facets effects the calculation time especially at the following moments:
If an operation should take extremely long (e.g. since two complex parts are being combined and their resolution was too high), a dialog will appear after approximately 30 seconds allowing to cancel the operation. If you choose to cancel, the current operation will be cancelled as fast as possible. If possible, a partial result will be displayed (which can be reversed using Undo), or the operation will be discarded completely.
If you are planning to frequently work with many complex 3D parts, we strongly recommend that you use a computer with many processor cores since many of the operations in the 3D part can automatically distributed to up to 16 processors which significantly speed up these operations! But you should know that, in average, a fast quad-core processor will accelerate your everyday work more than a slower hexa- or octa-core processor with a comparable price.
